Why do beds squeak?
Most times the squeak you are hearing is from the base of the bed. This is often due to wood rubbing on wood. This is why it is advisable to buy a set and not just a new mattress. You could damage a new mattress if you place it in a broken or compromised base.
If you have a bed frame you may need to tighten all the bolts and screws to make sure that is not the source of the problem.
In a cheap mattress the springs may be rubbing against one another causing the noise. A quality mattress will not give you this problem.
What should you do?
Once you have established if it is the base or the mattress itself, there are a few things you could do:
- tighten the bolts, if it is a bed frame
- buy a new base
- buy a whole new set
