A super king bed is the largest size we stock, and we list 33 of them. It is also the size people most often talk themselves into and occasionally regret, so this is the honest version rather than the sales version.
Who a super king bed genuinely suits
Three situations, and if you are not in one of them a king is probably the better buy.
Two tall adults. If you are both over about 1.80m, a king starts to feel snug across the shoulders, and the extra width stops being a luxury.
Children and pets who arrive at 5am. If your bed routinely holds more than two occupants, this is the size that makes that survivable rather than a nightly negotiation.
A genuinely large main bedroom. In a big room, a king can look slightly lost. A super king fills the space the way the room was designed for.
The room has to take it
This is where most super king plans fall over. Measure the floor space and leave 60cm clearance on every side you walk down — that is the space to walk normally and to make the bed without shuffling.
Then measure the route in. A super king mattress is wide enough to be a genuine problem in a narrow passage or a stairwell with a turn, and finding that out on delivery day is nobody’s good afternoon. Many bases split into two halves, which solves the base; the mattress does not split. Our bed sizes guide lists the dimensions you will need.
The bedding problem
Super king linen is stocked less widely and costs more. That is a permanent running cost rather than a one-off, and it is the part buyers most often forget to price in.
Buy at least two fitted sheets and a protector in the correct size at the same time as the bed. Trying to stretch king linen over a super king does not work and will pull off in the night.
When a king is the better answer
If the room is average sized, if only two people sleep in it, or if you are choosing between a super king in a lower range and a king in a better one — take the king. A better mattress at a slightly smaller size will out-sleep a bigger, cheaper one every time.
And if the real problem is length rather than width, the answer is King XL at 200cm, not more width. Extra length beds explains the difference.
If it is the right call
Then it is a lovely thing to own, and the space genuinely does improve how two people sleep. Browse super king beds, compare against our size guide, or send us your room dimensions and we will tell you honestly whether it fits.
