Women’s Day commemorates the historic 1956 march, when over 20,000 South African women marched to the Union Buildings in Pretoria to protest against the apartheid pass laws. It was a moment that redefined history and showed the nation – and the world – the power of women standing together. The bravery and determination of those women continue to inspire generations.

To the Present Day

Today, the spirit of that march lives on in the everyday lives of South African women.
